A word that means to add column totals across to see if the sum will equal the grand total. In the table below each of the columns A through Total was "footed" (added or summed) in order to get each column's total. Note that Total column contains the total amount for each item. To crossfoot means to add the totals shown in Columns A + B + C to verify that it sums to the total of Total column. In the following example, crossfooting means to add the following column totals: 20 + 15 + 16 to verify that it equals the total of the Total column, which is listed as 51.
