    May total from cash register in quickbooks shows me what I must have in the bank to cover all the checks that has been written??? MW

    Yes, your bank register shows you cash available. You should reconcile your bank statements regularly (monthly) though. This will ensure that you haven't missed any entries in QB that would affect your register. For example, if you missed entering a cash disburesement of $100, and your register's balance is $50, then your actual cash available is ($50), not $100. Hope that helps.
