In a production environment, overtime expense is typically considered part of burden (factory overhead) that should be allocated to jobs, and not charged to the specific job which an employee happens to be working on at the moment he/she exceeds 40 hours in a particular week. But what about a job quoted to a customer with planned overtime? For example, if a customer has an equipment failure and asks for my assistance on a weekend, I will tell the customer that I will be charging a premium price. In this case, I believe the overtime premium should be charged directly to that "weekend" job. Thoughts?
