Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is the statutory title of qualified accountants in the United States who have passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination and have met additional state education and experience requirements for certification as a CPA. In most U.S. states, only CPAs who are licensed are able to provide to the public attestation (including auditing) opinions on financial statements.

no actually i got my question right.. certified accountants audit companies too harry. i understand well what is a certified accountant (cpa/cma/cea/cia). but what is a chartered accountant?
from what I have known.. a chartered accountant (CA)has the same accounting knowledge as a CPA in the US. However, in some countries other than the US they do not use the term "CPA" but "CA". As CPA in the US, charter accounts also need to pass professional exams and meet other requirements in order to be qualified
