How are you supposed to value a gift in-kind? Lets say that someone gives you a piece of furniture to use in your business, how would this be valued?

    Thanks in advance!

basically, you dont have to record or you can put a zero value in it or 1 unit of monetary value say $1 even if the item has a productivity value. if its a only furniture just ignore it. i was asked the same question just last week and i've researched and inquired some cpa's, they have the same answer. what confuses me is why some people even bother to give students and employees problems like that and would instruct you to record it when i fact, accounting wise, gift-in kinds have no value whatsoever unless its a donated capital. if you are an employee maybe you can inquire your immediate supervisor and ask him/her idea on how it will be valued.
