General Accounting Discussions: I am a manufacturer, should I add my shipping costs in for raw materials to an items cost of goods?

    I am at odds with my boss. He wants to add the freight in on raw materials to the standard cost.
    I feel that it should be in the standard cost but not to the actual material cost.
    For example one pound of metal costs me $10.00 from the manufacturer.
    I pay UPS $6.00 to have it delivered. Where should I record the freight in cost?
