    Does the entry, "Retained earnings (accumulated deficit)," on a balance sheet mean, in essence, that the entity has loss carryforwards for tax purposes? Does it mean, in any sense, that the entity is "strapped" for cash?

    As a practical matter, does such an entry if large in relation to total equity--say 50%, signal a "good" thing or a "bad" thing?

    Thanks for opinions/answers/explanations.
