    Just wondering how other companies handle this situation. If a Purchase Order is written, and an invoice is received that does not match the PO. Our company will not allow us to just short pay the invoice to match the PO. Research has to be done and either the vendor has to correct the invoice or if it is in fact a Purchasing error, the PO has to be corrected.

    Given that, who should research the problem, Purchasing or Accounts Payable?

    as i worked before in Accounts payable section, what we do, we just inform the purchasing department that our PO is not matching the invoice or invoices......so accordingly purchasing department inform the vendor about the correction.

    The Accounts Payable Accountant should research the problem and do the following:

    If there is an error in the Invoice, jsut ask the vendor to send you a revised invoice to process the payment.
    If the error is in the PO, then talk to your Purchasing Dept. to issue a Change Order in lieu of the erroneous one.
